Meghalaya police bust gang of dacoits operating at Jowai by-pass

The West Jaintia Hills (WJH) police busted a gang of dacoits operating at Jowai by-pass area, after trailing for close to a week, WJH Superintendent of Police Bikram D Marak said.

Marak informed that the police managed to arrest four members of the gang in one week and seized weapons and other items from their possession.

The first arrest was made on October 7 and the latest on October 14. The arrested individuals are locals from the district, Marak said adding "but some of them were arrested from the nearby district of East Jaintia Hills."

The items seized include -- one dagger, one local made pistol, six rounds of .22 live ammunition, one Maruti 800 car used in the commission of the offence, two mobile phones and two truck batteries.

"A case has been registered under appropriate sections of the law," the district police chief said.
