Meghalaya: Dacoits escape with over Rs 25,000 after assaulting house owners

TURA: A man and his wife were allegedly bound and assaulted in Boldoka village in West Garo Hills (WGH) district of Meghalaya while their attackers fled with over Rs 25,000, on Tuesday.

According to reports, the incident occurred around 2:30 am when around ten individuals arrived in a vehicle and robbed over Rs. 25,901 from a grocery shop-cum-residence owned by the couple.

The miscreants assaulted Trebith A Sangma, 32, and his 26-year-old wife with an iron rod.

The couple sustained minor injuries and are stable.

On receiving the complaint, the officer-in-charge of Selsella outpost immediately ordered search operations and Naka checking.

“We have very strong clues on who may have been behind the attack, and an investigation is on accordingly. A team has been formed to nab the perpetrators, and the vehicle used by them to commit the crime,” said the Superintendent of Police (SP), WGH, Dr MGR Kumar.

WGH police confirmed that they received an FIR, and that investigation is ongoing.

“Security has been beefed up, with an increase in Naka checks and patrolling taking place in vulnerable areas. We appeal to all to remain alert and to provide any information on any miscreants or suspects without any delay through Police Control Room,” Kumar said.
