Meet Elvis Ali Hazarika from Assam, the first Northeastern to cross Catalina Channel

Meet 34-year-old Elvis Ali Hazarika from Assam, who broke the record after winning the international swimming competition in the United States.

Here are Elvis' achievements

A 34-year-old international swimmer Elvis Ali Hazarika from Assam has created history by crossing the Catalina Channel in the US. The Catalina Channel is known for its rocky island, high water body and also sharks.

As per sources, he is the first swimmer from the Northeast to achieve such a milestone. The 34-year-old swimmer covered a distance of 80 km from the US to Mexico in 10 hours 59 minutes.

At the age of 9, Elvis represented India in the Asia Pacific Swimming Championship in the year 1991.

In 1995 and 1999 he again represented the nation in South Asian Federation Games.

Elvis also represented India in the World Police Games in 2009 and Assam in the All-India-Pacific National Aquatic Games, Sub-Junior, Junior and Senior Aquatic National Championship and National Games.

Hazarika has won 68 national and 6 international gold medals.
