IMPHAL:

The All Tribal Student’s Union Manipur (ATSUM), recently submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister N. Biren Singh urging the state government to hold the six Autonomous District Council (ADC) elections on time.

The memorandum also urged the state government to dissolve the tenure of the ADC chairmen on completion of their terms in November 2020.

Earlier, the chairmen of the four ADCs namely Chandel, Ukhrul, Kangpokpi and Tamenglong had urged the Hills Area Committee (HAC) and the state government to extend their terms for another six months from December 2020 because of ‘harvesting’ and COVID-19.

Meanwhile, the ATSUM urged the state government to dissolve the tenure of the chairmen by stating that the reasons they had cited for the extension were void and nullified.

The student body further stated that the ECI (Election Commission of India) had issued protocols and guidelines for the upcoming by-polls in Manipur.
