The national vice president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Baijayant Jay Panda, arrived in Manipur on Tuesday ahead of the upcoming by-polls and went to Saitu assembly constituency to campaign for party candidate Ngamthang Haokip.

He was accompanied by BJP National general secretary Dilip Saikia, and Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh.

Panda spoke of Prime Minister Modi’s resolve to develop Manipur and the northeast, and of Home Minister Amit Shah’s initiatives to improve security in the state.

He also slammed the Congress by stating that the party could have established railways in Manipur 50 years back.

“They could have brought this 3,000 crores worth of water projects, that Modi government is funding and the government headed by N. Biren Singh. This could have been done 25 or 30 years back,” he said.

He later held a meeting with party workers and office-bearers to discuss the overall campaign strategy.

Besides this, he also held a meeting with the women at Wangjing Tentha in Thoubal district.
