The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has clinched the Assembly constituency of Singhat in Manipur's Churachandpur district as the sole opponent withdrew his nomination, thus paving the way for Ginsuanhau aka GS Haupu to win the seat, uncontested.

Chinlunthang, the independent candidate from Singhat assembly constituency in Churachandpur, withdrew his candidature for contesting in the upcoming by-polls on Thursday.

Interestingly, on the same day he withdrew his candidature, Chinlunthang was appointed as an Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in Tribal Affairs and Hills Department with immediate effect.

In the Singhat assembly constituency, the BJP has fielded Ginsuanhau as their candidate while the Congress has not fielded any candidate in the said assembly constituency.

As the last date for filing of nomination papers ended on October 20, and withdrawal of candidature till October 23 for the upcoming by-polls in Manipur, it is clear now that Ginsuanhau is elected unopposed.

Manipur goes for by-polls on November 7 in five assembly constituencies of which Singhat assembly constituency is one of it.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has congratulated Pu Ginsuanhau Zou for winning the seat.

"Winning of Singhat A/C By-Poll uncontested by @BJP4Manipur candidate Pu Ginsuanhau Zou is the result of people trust in the discipline & ideology of @BJP4India & the paradigm shift in development the nation witnesses since 2014 under the leadership of PM Shri @narendramodi ji," Singh tweeted on Friday.
