Bike rally held in Manipur to spread awareness regarding COVID-19

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh, on Thursday, flagged off a mega COVID-19 awareness bike rally organised by the Assam Rifles as part of the Jan Andolan drive started by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 15.

Major General Alok Naresh, Inspector General Assam Rifles, South also attended the event.

Over 200 bikers, including local bike clubs, the Royal Riders and Royal Motors, took part in the rally in a show of solidarity with the Assam Rifles for this noble initiative. The rally is said to have covered a distance of over 50 kms passing through prominent places and making halts at populated centres to educate and spread the message.

It is said that the Assam Rifles launched a week-long focussed Jan Andolan drive in various parts of Imphal East, Imphal West and Thoubal Districts wherein teams of Assam Rifles troopers reached out to spread awareness about the use of masks in daily routine, personal hygiene and to maintain physical distancing protocols.

Speaking at the event, Chief Minister N Biren Singh reaffirmed the commitment of state and people of Manipur to fight against the COVID threat in unison with the nation. He also thanked the Assam Rifles and IGAR South for proactively working towards spreading the awareness about COVID-19 to all parts of the state.

It is said that the second aim of the rally was also to express their gratitude to the COVID warriors of Manipur, especially the health care professionals of RIMS, JNIMS and other designated COVID care centres.
