GUWAHATI | January 19, 2019:

The Gauhati High Court has issued a notice to the state government, state commission for protection of child rights and state police on Friday. They have been directed by the High Court to file replies within January 28.

The dierctor general of Assam police and Sivasagar police have been asked by the High Court to file the updated status report of the ongoing investigation into the case.

One Parag Goswami, the superintendent of the shelter home had allegedly raped the woman who was residing in the shelter home. Last month, the woman had tried to kill herself following the alleged failure of the district police to act on her complaint.

On December 21, Sivasagar Police filed a chargesheet in the case, two days after the woman had tried to kill herself.

The woman also alleged that the house-mother of the shelter home, identified as Gita Kakati, used to torture her.

The woman survived the suicide attempt and was later shifted to the city for medical treatment and counselling. "Goswami has raped and sexually assaulted me several times. I am ashamed to speak about these things over and over again to different authorities. I am in great mental stress. But nobody believed me and thought that I am mentally ill. I want justice," the woman had earlier said.

In a letter to Utsah, a child rights organisation, the woman alleged that Goswami used to drug and then rape her during her stay
at the shelter home.
