Assam: Boat carrying 40 passengers capsizes on Brahmaputra leaving 2 dead, Rescue operation on

In what may be termed as an unfortunate incident, a boat carrying around 40 people has capsized today while it was ferrying passengers on the Brahmaputra River near Aswaklanta Temple in North Guwahati.

15 have been rescued so far while the process of rescuing others is still on.

Sources informed that the boat had hit the ongoing JICA construction activities, which led to the capsizing of the boat.

The rescue team have recovered two bodies and one among them has been identified as Ankita Baruah. Ankita is a student North Guwahati College.

NDRF-SDRF are carrying out the rescue operation to find other missing passengers who drowned after boat capsized in Brahmaputra in North Guwahati.

The route taken by the boat is a daily one used to travel from north Guwahati to Guwahati city. Among those in the boat were students, women, children among others.
