Assam: Boarders deny ragging student

GUWAHATI, June 25, 2018: A student living as a paying guest facility had lodged a complaint against other boarders for alleged ragging and physical torture, which they denied the charge.

Rani Gogoi, a plus-II student of DHSK College, had lodged an FIR at Gabrupathar police outpost on Saturday alleging that senior girls dragged her out of her room on Friday and asked her to catch a lizard. She alleged that one of the girls kicked her.

A boarder said on Sunday, "She (Rani) has been living with us for a month. Why would we torture her?" She said she is living there for three years but did not face any harassment.

Warden Bina Shahu said, "I was preparing dinner on Friday evening when her (Rani's) relatives came and threatened the other girls. Her claim is false and baseless."

"We have never got such a complaint. It's a false allegation," owner Runu Borthakur said.

"The investigation is at the preliminary stage," a police officer said.
