Itanagar, Aug 9: Arunachal Pradesh Youth Congress (APYC) President, Jikke Tako disassociated himself from the Congress Party and formally joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday.

Tako was brought into the party fold in a reception programme held on Wednesday at the BJP's state headquarters, in presence of state BJP President Tapir Gao, General Secretary Jarpum Gamlin, Vice President Dominic Tadar and other party members.

Tadar introduced the new face to the party workers and stated that with the joining of Tako, who has a vast experience in the political field, the morale of the youths would definitely receive a boost.

Welcoming the new comer, Gao exhorted him to work and look forward with an interest for the development of state while taking party ideology and discipline for larger interest of the society.

Reiterating that there is need to strengthen the party more to make Arunachal "Congress mukt", Gao said that as the party is becoming larger each day, and the roles and responsibilities have also increased, for which he exhorted the party workers to march ahead with new energy and zeal.

Tako was appointed the APYC acting President in September 2016 after MLA Nyamar Karbak had merged with the Peoples' Party of Arunachal. He continued to be the APYC President and had strongly voiced his resentment with the BJP on several occasions. In May this year, when the Modi-led Government was celebrating three years of governance, Tako had claimed that Modi was inaugurating the projects which were sanctioned during UPA regime. He had also alleged CM Pema Khandu of failing to bring any developmental packages. Tako had also staged a protest with the APYC and APCC against the centre's ban on cow slaughter for sale in markets in June this year.
