Rajnath e-inaugurates 4 strategic bridges in Sikkim

GANGTOK

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh today conducted the inauguration of 44 permanent major bridges and also laid the foundation stone for Nechipu tunnel in Arunachal Pradesh including four bridges in Sikkim namely, Khumdum Khola bridge, Ringchu Khola bridge, B5 bridge and Siyam Khola bridge.

Chief Minister PS Golay said, "These will solve the issue of connectivity for local people and open avenues for tourism-related activities and most importantly, assist our armed forces in transporting essential materials and equipment for security purposes."

Minister Roads & Bridges, officials from Border Roads Organisation, GREF and the Chief Minister's Office joined in via live video from Samman Bhawan. The heads and officials of 7 states and Union Territories(UT's) also participated in the inaugural function.

Chief Minister Golay also credited the BRO for "outstanding work" in the state.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said that he was honoured to be present in the e-inauguration event which he felt was essential for development activities. He mentioned the difficulties faced by the country in various sectors due to the pandemic and also about frequent tensions in the border region.

In Sikkim, the bridges will ease connectivity in the border region which has challenging topographical conditions.
