The Election Commission of India (ECI), has approved to hold by-election for another three assembly constituencies, namely Wangoi, Saitu (ST), and Singhat (ST), apart from the previously notified Lilong and Wangjing Tentha seats.

All the five assembly constituencies will go for polls on November 7, and the results will be on November 10, 2020.

"The commission is said to have decided the date of the polls after taking into consideration various factors like local festivals, weather conditions, movement of forces, pandemic,” said a press note issued by the Election Commission of India.

All five seats were vacated by the Congress MLAs, following their resignation from the Congress Party and their membership from the Manipur Legislative Assembly.

They are P. Brojen of Wangjing Tentha, Abdul Nasir of Lilong, O. Lukhoi of Wangoi, Ngamthang Haokip of Saitu, and Ginsuanhau of Singhat assembly constituencies.

All five of them had skipped the trust vote against the Biren Government in August and later submitted their resignation as MLAs. They all are said to have joined the BJP now.

In the cabinet reshuffle that occurred last month, ex MLA Oinam Lukhoi Singh of Wangoi constituency took charge of agriculture, veterinary, animal husbandry and tourism in the Biren led government.
