SHILLONG: The clock is ticking and the deciding hour is drawing close for the flag be it NPP or Congress to finally fly high up above Garo Hills’ sky.
As NPP candidate, Conrad K Sangma and Congress candidate Dikkanchi D Shira are eagerly waiting for the result to be announced, preparations are all set for the counting of votes for the by-polls to the Tura Lok Sabha constituency.
According to the Chief Electoral officer, FR Kharkongor, counting centres would be set up at Williamngar, Baghmara, Resubelpara, Tura and Ampati under the surveillance of CCTV cameras.
He also informed that two companies of central para-military forces would be deployed on the counting day.
It may be reminded that days before the polling date, attacks and counter attacks dominated the entire political scene in Garo Hills as hate speeches and distribution of hate pamphlets became the order of the day.
Both the candidates, Conrad and Dikkanchi have expressed confidence of winning the prestigious Tura Lok Sabha bye-polls but it will be the voters who will decide the fate of Conrad and Dikkanchi.
Monday by-polls saw 77.66 per cent voters’ turn out for Tura Lok Sabha seat.
