Tripura: Union Health Minister launches Rotavirus vaccination programme

AGARTALA: Union Health Minister for Health and Family Welfare – Jagat Prakash Nadda said that nearly 10 lakh children in India are hospitalized after becoming victim of Rotavirus infection. Among them, one lakh dies every year before reaching to five years of age.
” Rotavirus kills approximately one lakh children every year. To prevent this, vaccination is important. Rotavirus vaccination could only prevent this  untime death,” he said while speaking at launching programme of Rotavirus vaccination at Pragna Bhawan in Agartala on Saturday evening.
However, he also expressed his dissatisfaction over not utilizing central funds for healthcare development. On the issue, he said that the funds allocated by the Centre are not used fully for development and cited example of Uttarakhand that failed to spend Rs. 179 crore sanctioned to it.

Rotavirus vaccine was officially earlier launched in Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, and Odisha.The Health Ministry had earlier launched four vaccines – Rotavirus, Japanese Encephalitis, IPV apart from Mission Indradhanush, he said.

Later, he paid a visit to Agartala Government Medical College and GBP Hospital and Cancer Institute.

After his visit, when asked for his reaction, he said,” Much is to be done. The Centre will extend support to the state government for healthcare development.”

Tripura Health Minister Badal Choudhury placed demand of upgrading two medical colleges, introduction of a centre for medical PG examination, allowing Bengali set of questions in medical examinations, infrastructural development of Regional Cancer institute etc. during the vaccination launching programme.

BJP president Biplab Deb also forwarded a memorandum seeking super-speciality center, regional institute for Ophthalmology etc. before the Union Health Minister.
