Home Minister Rajnath Singh today said at a poll rally here that he was confident of people’s mandate in favour of BJP-IPFT alliance and claimed CPIM would be uprooted from the state in the poll results.
Tripura’s sixty member assembly is scheduled to undergo general elections on February 18. The House has 52 Left Front MLAs, 2 Congress MLAs, six from BJP and one disqualified under anti-defection law.
Addressing a rally at Indranagar Basic Training College grounds in close vicinity of Agartala city, Rajnath Singh today said twenty-five years of left rule had created so much ‘dirt’ that ‘lotus’ was sure to bloom in the election results.
He launched attack on Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and said he was liable for protecting those involved with corruption and criminal activities. Citing references of corruption charges over Rose Valley chit fund scam against his cabinet member and other leaders of ruling CPIM, Singh today said Sarkar had to take onus for not initiating action against them.
The CBI earlier grilled Minister for Social Welfare and Social Education Bijita Nath and CPIM spokesperson Goutam Das over the chit fund scam. Referring to the issue, the Home Minister said ‘nobody could raise a finger on corruption charges against any ministers of the Modi cabinet’. He claimed the central government to be clean and said CM Manik Sarkar was giving protection to the corrupt and criminals.
Singh also said his government at the centre was successful in bringing up India as one of the strongest nations in the world and said it bravely battled armed insurgency in Northeast India with the help of neighbouring Bangladesh.
The union minister urged people to vote for BJP-IPFT alliance and said they would announce 7th Pay Commission benefits for state government employees right after oath-taking ceremony. He also said if BJP assumed power, the new government would announce CBI investigation on journalist murders within one week.
Later today, Rajnath joined a road show – Vijay Sankalp Rath Yatra, at Agartala city and addressed BJP supporters at few other areas of Agartala, Banamalipur, Badharghat, Town Bardowali and nearby assembly constituency areas.
At Unakoti district, 150 Km away from Agartala, Information and Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani appealed voters to choose BJP and said her party would work to introduce development if voted to power. She accused CPIM of party-politics and said they failed to develop Tripura in 25 years and said the left government shouldn’t ‘morally’ stay in power since law and order situation allegedly broke down.
She also addressed public rallies at Fatikroy and Pabiacherra in the same district today where she promised higher wages for labourers, better security for women and more livelihood avenues for common people if BJP was voted to power in the state.
