Tripura: Over 250 lawyers lost recognition, can’t practice in any court in India

AGARTALA: Over 250 lawyers were de-recognised and could not practice in any of the courts in India.

Of them, former Chief Minister Samir Ranjan Barman, current Trinamool Congress MLA – Sudip Roy Barman, Tripura Legislative Assembly speaker – Ramendra Chandra Nath, Bharatiya Janata Partry’s vice president Subal Bhowmik are the leading personalities.

As they were de-recognised by the Tripura Bar Council for not practicing as lawyers for more than five years, they could not practice in any court in the country. They even lost the right to cast vote in the bar council elections, an official of the Tripura Bar Council said.

However, they could revive the recognition if they start practicing as lawyers following the guidelines of the Bar Council of India.

Though these de-recognised lawyers got them enrolled in the profession, many of them moved to some other professions and some of them became full-fledged politicians.

The de-recognition step was taken after Tripura Bar Council started the verification process for credential advocates of over 1,100 advocates affiliated to it as per the order of the Bar Council of India.
