AGARTALA: Over 1000 village panchayats and village committees would be provided water testing kit by the government to check water-borne diseases.
As primary step of the decision, facilitators from total 1,118 village panchayats and village committees would be imparted training after which they would be provided with the testing kits. The facilitators would be selected by the panchayats of respective areas.
Each of the facilitator would be given Rs. 25 from Drinking Water and Sanitation Department for each testing, official sources from the department.
Water samples from nearly 61,000 water sources like ponds, reservoirs identified in those villages, would be used for the testing.
After the test, the concerned department would monitor the results on the basis of which they would give suggestive measures to improve quality of water.
The test would confirm iron level in the water and if any bacteria are present in water and also level of water pollution. If required, the samples would be sent to sub-divisional laboratory for further experiment.
