Agartala, July 17, 2017: After eight long days of indefinite National Highway and railways blockade movement for separate statehood, the IPFT leaders are expected to meet Union Minister of state for Home Affairs – Kiren Rijiju at New Delhi on Tuesday evening.
Chief Minister Manik Sarkar on Monday called Rijiju about the IPFT’s movement in Tripura and two-member delegation went to meet the central ministers to press for their demand. In the telephonic conversation, Rijiju told Sarkar that Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has asked him to meet the IPFT leaders and accordingly, he would sit with them in a meeting tomorrow evening.
When contacted, IPFT chief NC Debbarma said they are waiting for the Centre’s response to decide their next stand and they are about to sit for the meeting tonight.
BJP state in-charge Sunil Deodhar refuted the statement and said that he talked to Rijiju who told him that there would be no meeting with the IPFT activists till they end their indefinite movement unconditionally.
“The government is lying about the Centre’s meeting with the IPFT as I had personally talked to Mr. Rijiju who told me that the Centre would not meet the IPFT leaders unless they withdraw their movement,” he said.
The IPFT sat for the agitation since july 10 at Khamtingbari in Barmura Hill Range.
