With a motive of strengthening the relation between India and Bangladesh, the Tripura government will inaugurate the Indo-Bangla Friendship Park at Chottakhola in South Tripura District, nearly 130 km from Agartala on December 16.
Statues of former India’s Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and Bangladesh’s founding father Sheikh Mujibar Rahman would be erected in the park that was built on a 20-hectare land. Memoirs of security personnel–BSF and Army would also be put up in the park.
The state government has proposed a package tourism under Swadesh Darshan scheme of the Union Ministry of Tourism, said Revenue Minister Badal Choudhury at Civil Secretariat on Wednesday evening.
“Tripura played an important role in the 1971 Liberation War. More than 16 lakh refugees were given shelter here during the war. Many soldiers were martyred in the war. In memory of the martyrs and to strengthen the two countries’ relationship, the government will inaugurate the park,” he said.
It was informed that Chief Minister Manik Sarkar will inaugurate the park.
