Tripura: Government denies CBI probe for Santanu-murder case

Agartala Nov 13,2017: The Tripura government has denied to hand over the murder case of TV journalist Santanu Bhowmik to CBI saying that the Special Investigation Team (SIT)comprising of state police are investigating the case.

Replying to a question of opposition MLA Ratan Lal Nath, Minister in-charge of Home Department Manik Sarkar said that the police have arrested four accused persons involved in murder of Santanu Bhowmik.

Moreover, the government has formed a special probe to look into the murder case.

” The SIT is investigating the matter. We should keep faith on the SIT investigation. We would get to know all in detail once the investigation process is over,” said Sarkar.

Santanu Bhowmik was killed amidst violence between two rival indigenous-based political parties at Mandwai on September 20.

The BJP, IPFT  has demanded a CBI probe into the case while the Congress stressed on judicial inquiry to reveal the truth.

Even 11 different organizations of journalists has raised their voicec in favour of CBI investigation into Santanu-murder case.

Later, MLA Sudip Roy Barman asked whether the government would take stringent law to ensure safety of working journalists.
Sarkar, though did not throw light on the issue, but asked the Opposition Bench members to table if they have any suitable suggestions on the issue.
