Tripura: BJP and CPM criticise each other for ‘arms’ conspiracy during polls

AGARTALA, February 9, 2018: Less than 24 hours after one arrested with arms and ammunition on the day before the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in poll-bound Tripura, both the ruling CPM and opposition BJP blamed each other for trying to destabilise fair elections.

BJP state in-charge Sunil Deodhar alleged a huge number of arms are being brought by the CPM-backed goons to three Assembly constituencies – Majlishpur, Mandwai and Khayerpur to trigger violence during polls.

“We demand police to arrest those persons who are constantly on attempts to disturb free and fair elections in the state. We would give secret inputs of collecting arms to these three constituencies to police and election officers,” said Sunil Deodhar on Thursday late evening.

He, however, claimed that a section of government officials were working at the behest of ‘CPM’ and warned that legal action would be taken against them if BJP comes to power.

In reference to the recovery of arms, the CPM blamed the BJP, especially outsiders camped in the state.

“We have lodged complaint with state Election Commission. We demanded to ensure peaceful polls,” said CPM secretary Bijan Dhar.

He also raised allegation against BJP for ransacking party offices in South District and demanded to arrest them at the earliest.
