AGARTALA June 19: Over 1000 families were counted as flood-affected victims and two persons were injured in different parts of Tripura following the incessant rainfall occurred for past few days.
According to latest official reports, more than 70 houses from 49 villages were fully or partly damaged in the flood and cyclone. Many electrical posts were damaged and trees were uprooted. However, unofficial sources claimed the the loss is much higher.
“We found reports of as many as 1,077 families were affected due to the flood till evening. The figure of flood-affected victims and damaged properties is increasing, though we are yet to get the final report,” an official from Disaster Management Cell said on Monday evening.
The most affected areas today are five villages of Agartala Municipal Corporation, two villages from Dukli Block, four villages from Hezamara Block, five villages from Mohanpur Block in West Tripura District, parts of Amarpur Block in Gomati District, 17 villages of Khowai Municpal Council, 8 villages of Kalyanpur Block, four villages from Teliamura Block and Teliamura Municipal Council each in Khowai District.
All the food-affected victims were shifted to relief camps set up in different affected areas and were provided food.
Bishalgarh and Charilam in Sepahijala District recorded huge loss due to the cyclone and rainfall on June 16 and Kamalpur in Dhalai District on the day before it. Two people got injured in West District’s Hezamara Block in the cyclone on Saturday, official record claimed.
The Met Department said that nearly 182.3 mm rainfall recorded in these four days.
According to the department’s forecast, heavy rainfall with thunder shower are expected to occur in different parts of the state in another 24 hours.
