Tripura: CM seeks technical and financial assistance for fruit plants

AGARTALA, July 6, 2018: Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb sought help from state Union minister for micro, small and medium enterprises Giriraj Singh to set up fruit-processing plants in the state.

On Thursday, an official statement said that during a recent visit to New Delhi, Deb met Singh, Union health minister J.P. Nadda, minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari and others.

Deb sought technical and financial assistance from Singh for setting up pineapple and jackfruit processing units in the state, it said.

"The chief minister stressed that units for processing for pineapple and financial assistance from the government of India. He also suggested cluster-based approach for development of bamboo and rubber," it said.

The statement said a joint team from Central Food Technological Research Institute, Mysore, Horticulture Research Institute, Bangalore, and Indian Institute of Food Processing Technology, Tanjore, will visit the state soon to assess the feasibility of setting up fruit-processing plants.

Singh suggested focus on a host of sectors for development on mission mode. These include bamboo, aroma plants, exotic fruits and solar charkha.

He said two districts could be selected for promoting stevia cultivation and solar charkha.

Deb, in a seperate meeting with Gadkari had requested him to take up the four-lane expressway project from Agartala airport to Amtali, which could provide a direct link from the airport to the Tripura Sundari temple at Udaipur.

He said that the step would reduce traffic pressure and also help boost tourism in the state.
