Shillong’s Winward Sangma creates history with BMX

SHILLONG | June 16, 2019:

In a matter of pride for the entire state and the Northeast as a whole, a 20-yr-old BMX rider from Shillong, Winward Sangma has set a new world record with his BMX a freestyle bike by covering 565 km within 24 hrs. (longest distance covered by BMX).

He started his journey from Shillong on June 15 along with MTB rider Hopesent Marak and set the world record till Jalpaiguri in West Bengal.

Representing Vizibility_Zero BMX park, Sangma said his intention was not only to set a record but also to spread awareness on the need to save trees, save the earth.

This picture was taken at Mawlai police station with the OC before leaving with a written application by them confirming the journey

Along with them Anup J Sarmah, who is a professional videographer, Sangma is presently in Siliguri and will be leaving for Nepal, to the highest lake in the world (Tilicho Lake) on June 16 (today).

The 20-yr-old BMX rider will start his ride from Besisahar, Nepal to the lake for the another record with his BMX on June 19.

"Due to his supportive sponsors like zealot BMX, pro cycling, Tod Fod, Red FM, I was being able to manage the entire trip and bring glory to the state," said the excited Sangma.
