Mobile numbers to have 13 digits by December 2018
GUWAHATI, February 22, 2018: To provide better security features, the Department of Telecom (DoT) has issued a directive instructing all telecom operators in the country to start issuing 13-digit mobile numbers to customers.
The 13-digit M2M numbering plan has been decided which will be implemented from July 1, 2018 and all new mobile connections will be allocated 13-digit numbers only.
Starting from October 1, 2018 existing mobile users' numbers will be ported to 13-digits. The deadline for completion of the same has been set for December 31, 2018.
All telecom service providers have been directed to ensure that their network elements are aligned with 13-digit numbering for the new sim before the due date of July 1.
