Meghalaya’s very 1st Braille EPIC card given to Padmashree Bertha Dkhar

Bertha G Dkhar, Padmashree recipient from Meghalaya and Principal of Meghalaya's first Blind School was handed the State's first ever Braille EPIC card by CEO FR Kharkongor at the #GoVote Shillong Talks programme as part of Accessible Elections for Lok Sabha 2019 today.

The programme was held at U Soso Tham auditorium in Shillong were eminent people like Former Home Minister GoM, RG Lyngdoh, Social thinker Balajied Nongrum, Padmashree Recipient Bertha G Dkhar and Meghalaya CEO FR Kharkongor took part in the panel discussion in what may be termed as the last leg of awareness programme before Lok Sabha Election in the state.

It may be recalled that Meghalaya has for the first time introduced Braille ballot papers this year for inclusion of the visually impaired voters in the upcoming election.
The CEO informed today that there are 797 Braille voters in the state.
It may be mentioned that a total number of 19,14,795 electorates will cast their votes for the two Parliamentary seats in Meghalaya for the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls which goes to vote on April 11.The total number of voters in Shillong Parliamentary constituency is 1197806 including 586092 males and 611714 female voters. There are also 2144 service voters. As far as Tura seat is concerned, there are 716989 voters including 363529 male and 353460 female voters. In Tura constituency, there are 1280 service voters and 2 NRI voters.
