Meghalaya: Woman files FIR against ex-boyfriend over derogatory social media posts

In yet another IT-related case, a man has been alleged to posting derogatory and demeaning posts about his ex-girlfriend on Facebook by using a fake profile.

The matter was reported after a woman from the town of Williamnagar in East Garo Hills (EGH) filed a case against her former boyfriend for defaming her. The case was filed on June 28 at the Williamnagar PS.

According to the FIR filed, Prewill T Sangma, who earlier had a relationship with the victim had opened a fake account going by the name of Dilsrang Shira on Facebook. He later began posting in a group Garo News (24 Hours Live) where he put up derogatory statements, maligning the character of the victim.

"He has even posted my personal phone number and this has caused me tremendous mental harassment," said the victim.

The victim yesterday provided proof through screenshots of what was said about her by her former boyfriend seeking police intervention into the case.

Confirming the receipt of the FIR, the SP of East Garo Hills said that the matter was currently under investigation. He said more details would be available on investigation and action would follow.
