Meghalaya: Two killed after truck falls into 300-ft deep gorge in Khliehriat

In an unfortunate incident, two people lost their lives after a truck they were travelling in fell into a 300-feet deep gorge in Ratachera village in East Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya on Wednesday morning.
According to the police, today at around 11.30 am, an information was received from the headman of Ratachera village, Khamsngur Pohiing who informed that one truck went off the road at NH 44 road and fell down to a 300-feet deep gorge.
During enquiry, it was learnt that the vehicle (regd AS 01 9575) while proceeding from Silchar in Assam toward Khliehriat side in East Jaintia Hills, went off road on reaching Ratacherra village at about 2.30 am to 3. 00 am, after the driver, who was allegedly over-speeding, lost control of the vehicle and felt into the deep gorge.
Two unidentified male dead bodies suspected to be the driver (between 30 to 35yrs) and helper (between 24 – 28 yrs) were recovered. All formalities were observed, and bodies have been forwarded to CHC KLT for post mortem examination.
