Meghalaya | Mental health professional from SANKER drowns in swimming pool

A mental health professional of Northeast India's first mental health care centre located in Mawlai, Mawroh drowned in the swimming pool of her friend's resort on Sunday.

The incident took place when the deceased, Dr Ila Lyngksiar Rynjah, took time off from her duty and went out to the resort with her friends.

Ila was supposed to take upon herself to run SAN-KER, which was established by her father, Dr Sandi Syiem, also a psyvhiatrist.

Dr Ila Rynjah served as Assistant Professor, Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) Mumbai, in the School of Human Ecology after which she completed her PhD in Clinical Psychology in 2016 from the National Institute for Mental Health And Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS) Bengaluru.

Rynjah then returned to Shillong after having spent time in Nepal to help with rehabilitation after the earthquake of April 2015.

Ila's friends and colleagues from Bengaluru, Mumbai and Chennai have all rushed to Shillong to pay their respects.
