Meghalaya: Former GSU leader seeks district status for Dadenggre

From Our Correspondent, TNT News | Tura, June 28, 2018:
While the State Government is bogged down by demands and requests from several quarters vis-a-vis creation of civil sub divisions, a former NGO leader and runner up in the last MLA election Rupa Marak today raised the demand for a separate district for Dadenggre on the basis of it being the oldest sub division.
"Dadenggre is the oldest civil-division in Garo Hills. Three civil – subdivisions, namely Resubelpara, Dadenggre and Ampati came into being in the year of 1982 in Garo Hills. While Resubelbara and Ampati has been upgraded to a district, Dadenggre was left out though despite a greater population and a bigger jurisdictional area," said the former president of GSU – Western Zone, in a release today.
According to him, the Dadenggre civil-sub-division covered an area of 6 MLA constituencies whereas Resubelpara and Ampati has only 4 MLA constituencies in them.
"There was a demand for the upgradation of Dadenggre Civil sub-division into a district while I was the president of GSU – Western Zone (North) for 12 long years," he added.

Rupa added that he came across the statement of Speaker Dr. Donkupar Roy today seeking upgradation of Sohra and Mairang civil-sub-division into districts.
"I would also like to request the present government to upgrade Dadenggre into a district," he said.
He felt the Dadenggre civil sub division lagged behind in infrastructure development and its upgradation into a district will pave way for development which will in turn benefit the public and will also bring them closer to the administration. The MLA contestant added that he would soon meet the Chief Minister in this regard.
Marak further demanded the development of the Raksamgre Civil Sub Division which he felt was in desperate need of attention.
"The creation of Ranikor civil-sub-division will help the public immensely but if it is left neglected like Raksamgre, it will not do good for the people. It will be a Civil-sub-division in paper only like Raksamgre. The government should also take the responsibility to take necessary steps for infrastructure development of the already created Civil Sub-Divisions," felt Rupa.
