The Federation of Khasi-Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) has expressed its surprise on the Shillong Street Art Festival's decision to paint a mural of Bollywood great Mithun Chakraborty stating that local artists should focus on local artists instead.

In a press statement, the FKJGP has encouraged the young artists of the state to focus on local musicians and artists such as Lou Majaw, late Skendrowell Syiemlieh, etc instead of Bollywood actors, stating that Shillong has a great number of talented artists that deserve such a tribute.

The Shillong Street Art Festival includes street art that is a juxtaposition of graffiti and murals targeting different subjects like, women empowerment, the Khasi populace, etc.
