Meghalaya: Curfew relaxed for 11 hrs in disturbed areas as Shillong limps back to normalcy

As the city is slowly limping back to normalcy, the East Khasi Hills district administration has relaxed curfew in disturbed areas for 11 hours with effect from June 10.

The District Magistrate has RELAXED curfew in areas under Lumdiengjri Police Station, that is, Jaiaw, Mawkhar, Umsohsun, Riatsamthiah, Wahingdoh, Mission, Mawprem, Lumdiengjri, Lamavilla, Qualapatty, Wahthapbru, Sunny Hill, Cantonment, Mawlong Hat including Cantonment Beat House Areas (excluding localities beyond Umshyrpi bridge) for 11 hours for tomorrow with effect from 7.00 A.M. to 6.00 P.M. and is promulgated again with effect from 6.00 P.M. and until further orders.

At the same time, the District Magistrate, has under Section 144 CrPC imposed Night Curfew from 9:00 P.M. to 5: 00 A.M. in Shillong Agglomeration with effect from June 10 and till further orders.

Meanwhile, responding to the complaints of an increase in the prices of essential commodities in the city as the outcome of the 5-day long turmoil in Shillong, the district magistrate has informed that there is no shortage of Essential Items and therefore there is no reason for retailers and shop keepers to hike prices of Essential Items.

In the  prevailing law and order situation in Shillong which has resulted to the promulgation of curfew, many Shop Keepers and Retailers are taking advantage of the situation by escalating prices of the Essential Commodities. The Magistrate has further assured that after the assessment of the stock position of Essential Commodities with Traders and Stockiest that there is no shortage of Essential Items.

Strict action will be taken against retailers, shop keepers found selling essential items at unreasonable and exorbitant price, he added.
