Meghalaya: Curfew imposed in sensitive areas of Shillong following law & order breakdown

While the East Khasi Hills District Administration has been able to contain the serious breakdown of law and order situation in the city's main hub- Motphran on Thursday evening, the authority has imposed a curfew in certain areas situated near Motphran to further prevent any untoward incident.

The district deputy commissioner, PS Dkhar has stated "whereas there is a likelihood of serious breach of peace which may lead to acts of arson, targeting vehicles and causing loss of life and property, from today and the following days, I do hereby promulgate curfew in the following areas of Shillong city."

In his order, Dkhar said that the curfew will come into effect from June 1 from 4 am until further order was promulgated under Section 144 CrPC and the areas under curfew include:

Jaiaw, Mawkhar, Umsohsun, Raitsamthiah, Wahingdoh, Mission Mawprem, Lumdiengjri, Lamavilla, Qualapatty, Wahthapbru, Sunny Hill, Cantonment, Mawlong Hat (excluding localities beyond Umshyrpi bridge).
