Meghalaya CM urges Shillongites to maintain peace; says govt making efforts to bring normalcy

Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma on Friday urged the citizens of Shillong to maintain peace while asserting that the government is making all efforts to bring normalcy in the affected areas.
In his tweet, Conrad said "We are monitoring the law and order situation closely in Shillong."

It may be mentioned that curfew has been imposed in certain areas of Shillong following a violent clash that broke out between the police and an unruly mob in the city's Motphran area. The clash erupted after a bus conductor was allegedly assaulted by a group of people residing at Them Iew Mawlong (Harijan's lane).
The chief minister held an emergency meeting on Friday morning to discuss the seriousness of the issue and monitor the law and order situation in the city.

Meanwhile, the Home Minister James Sangma told media persons that has assured that the Government is working towards restoring normalcy and peace.
"We are trying our best to ensure that normalcy is restored," Sangma said while addressing newsmen after the meeting convened by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma to assess the law and order situation in Shillong today.
The Home Minister also confirmed that all the 3G and 4G services have been asked to stop to prevent spreading of false news through social media.
Meanwhile, the KSU also held an emergency meeting today in this regard whereby they have asked the government to arrest the trouble mongers responsible for creating chaos in the area. they have also demanded that those injured in the violence be compensated.
