Meghalaya: 24 Shillong youths booked, fined for installing modified exhaust pipes in vehicles

Sending a stern message to drivers using modified exhaust pipes in their vehicles, the Shillong Traffic Police on Wednesday asserted that anyone found flouting the advisory issued on April 12 against usage of the exhaust pipe will booked under Section 102 of the Meghalaya Police Act where fine will be Rs 5000.
The East Khasi Hills district police had on April 12 issued an advisory to the general public warning drivers using Modified Exhaust Pipe in their vehicles as it causes noise pollution and causes annoyance to the passersby. However, inspite of this, it has been found out that many vehicle users are still using their modified exhaust pipes.

In this regard, the Shillong Traffic Police were compelled to conduct checking in and around Shillong starting from June 18 and have already detected around 24 cases of modified exhaust pipes on first day mostly used by youngsters.
Dr SP (Traffic) also stated that checking will not be only for two-wheelers but also for all types of vehicles and urge all the vehicle users to kindly remove their modified exhaust pipes.
