Justice Md Yaqoob Mir takes oath as 6th Chief Justice of Meghalaya HC

Jammu and Kashmir High Court judge Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir on Monday took oath as the new Chief Justice of the High Court of Meghalaya.

Justice Mir was administered the oath of office by Governor Ganga Prasad at Raj Bhavan here today.

Justice Mir is the sixth Chief Justice of the Meghalaya high court since its inauguration in March 2013.

Speaking to the media soon after the oath-taking ceremony, the new Chief Justice assured to work judiciously and to ensure speedy delivery of justice.

"My areas of priorities is to do justice, to encourage dispensation of justice and to develop the infrastructure and to ensure that justice is accessible to everyone. We will try to see that something better is done," Justice Mir said.

When asked about the case pertaining to the high number of POCSO cases in the state, the newly sworn-in CJ said "We will try our level best to see that justice is done in a speedy manner."

Reacting to a question on the lack of judges serving in the Meghalaya High Court, Justice Mir said that the strenght of judges is likely to increase. "I will see to it. I am over today, we will see something is done so that we can do better," he added.

It may be mentioned that at present there are only two judges in the Meghalaya HC including the Chief Justice against the total strength of four. Another serving judge is Justice SR Sen.
