Guwahati youth drowns in Assam-Meghalaya border at Ukiam river

GUWAHATI, June 11, 2018: In a tragic incident, a youth hailing from Guwahati drowned in a river at Ukiam located near Assam-Meghalaya border where he had gone for outing with his friends on Sunday afternoon, police sources said.

The deceased was identified as Azanul Alam Mazumdar, a resident of Sijubari, Hatigaon.

The body of the deceased was recovered from Ukiam river by police with the help of residents.

Aftabuddin Mazumdar, father of the deceased had told the reporters that his son could not swim but refrained from commenting further when asked whether he suspected any foul play.

Situated in Assam-Meghalaya border, Ukiam is a famous picnic spot bordering West Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya which is 25km from Chaygaon in South Kamrup.
