Cyber criminals create fake Assam BJP website, link it to porn sites

GUWAHATI, May 26, 2018: Cyber criminals have created a fake website in the name of Assam BJP and linked it to pornographic websites.
When discovered, the party lodged a complaint with the special branch of Assam police to take appropriate action against the culprits.
Assam BJP spokesperson Rupam Goswami said from preliminary inquiry it was found that the fake website ( www.bjpassam.org) was registered in Kenya and efforts have been initiated to block the website.
The official website of the state BJP is assam.bjp.org.
Police suspect this to be the work of mischievous elements trying to malign the party's image. However, they have not yet ascertained who was behind the crime.
The Assam BJP has also sent an email to register.com, a leading provider of global domain name registration that had registered the www.bjpassam.org, requesting its help to get this domain and its content blocked or deleted as "it is hampering the reputation of our party".
"We have another domain, assam.bjp.org, which contains our organisation details and has already created a lot of digital presence. Hence, a similar domain with pornographic content has created a negative image for our political party," the email said.
It may be noted that the website of the BJP's Jammu and Kashmir unit was also hacked last month with the hackers posting a message demanding justice for the victim of the gruesome Kathua rape in January.
