Assam: Three of family killed in road mishap at Dibrugarh

GUWAHATI, June 2, 2018: In a tragic incident, three members in a family were killed in a road mishap that took place on National Highway 37 at Chabua in Dibrugarh district on Friday morning.
The incident took place when their car lost control and hit a roadside tree. The deceased were identified as Monika Sharma Kumar and her two sons, Saxam, 18, and Priyam, 15.
Monika's husband Sanjeev Kumar had recently joined as the deputy manager of Mohanbari tea estate in Dibrugarh. Before shifting to Assam, Monika used to be a teacher at Don Bosco School, Oodlabari, in West Bengal.
Police said both Saxam (Class XI) and Priyam (Class IX) were students of Guru Teg Bahadur Academy in Tinsukia. Saxam had topped Don Bosco School, Oodlabari, in this year's Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) examination before he joined Guru Teg Bahadur Academy.
On Friday morning, their mother decided to accompany them to school and in the absence of their regular driver, Saxam was at the wheels.
Sources said the speeding car (WB-72/H-1478) suddenly lost control near Jerai Gaon approach road on NH37, skidded off the road and overturned several times before hitting a roadside tree.
While Monika and Priyam died on the spot, a barely-breathing Saxam was taken to the Assam Medical College and Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
