Assam: Police sub-inspector held for taking bribe at Paltan Bazar

GUWAHATI | August 8, 2018:
A sub-inspector of Paltan Bazar police station was caught red-handed by the sleuths of the Vigilance And Anti-Corruption Bureau while taking a bribe of Rs 20,000 on Tuesday night.

A police source said sub-inspector Biren Kr Bora was caught taking Rs 20,000 from one Jayant Das in a bar of a city hotel at Paltan Bazar around 9pm.

The complainant had obtained interim bail from Gauhati High Court in a different case and had appeared before the policeman about a week back, as directed by the high court. The policeman had allegedly demanded Rs 50,000 from Das to regularise the bail. Das then approached the bureau and reported the matter.
Based on his complaint, an FIR was registered at ACB police station vide case number 18/2018 and sleuths laid a trap and arrested the officer.
Source said, that the hotel manager, Jatindra Nath is also being questioned on his role since the accused officer, after receiving the bribe, had handed over the amount to him, the source said.
