Assam: Main shooter in Sildubi rhino poaching case arrested in Guwahati

GUWAHATI, June 27, 2018: A poacher identified as Yakub Ali has been arrested by the police officials of Kaziranga National Park's northern range at Panbazar, Guwahati on Tuesday.
Ali was the main shooter in the Sildubi rhino poaching incident at Panpur of Sonitpur district, in the sixth addition of the national park, on May 29.
The range officials claimed there was a link between poachers of two states involved in the Panpur incident.
Range officer Pranjal Baruah said altogether 10 poachers were involved in the incident. Five have been arrested. Ali was the main shooter of the May 29 incident and had been absconding for nearly a month. He shot six rounds of bullets into the rhino and three empty cartridges were recovered from the spot, Baruah said.
Ali was absconding after another case of poaching in 2014. Chargesheeted by the CBI in Guwahati, he was found near Meghdoot Bhavan here on Tuesday. Officials of the northern range had been searching for him here and he was arrested on the spot.
