GUWAHATI, June 13, 2018 (TNN): Prime accused in the lynching of two Guwahati youths sound engineer Nilotpal (29) and his businessman friend Abhijit (30) in a remote village in Karbi Anglong district of Assam on June 8, Alphajoz Timung alias Alpha, who was nabbed by police on late Tuesday night tells police how the barbaric act was a spur-of-the-moment decision.

Timung, a history-sheeter, revealed before the police that he first met the two youths from Guwahati at the Kangthilangso falls. It was around 6pm and Nilotpal and Abhijit, both nature lovers, were searching for some ornamental fishes there when they had an argument with Timung over their presence at the location.

Timung told police that he called up some of friends and called them near the waterfall. Seeing the situation turning bad, Nilotpal and Abhijit left the place in their vehicle and that is when Timung and his friends started pelting stones at the vehicle. They also followed the two Guwahati youths on motorbikes.

Timung meanwhile alerted his other friends at Panjuri to stop the SUV in which Nilotpal and Abhijit were travelling saying that they were child-lifters and have kidnapped a small girl. When the duo reached Panjuri, a group of boys in drunken state stopped the vehicle, pulled them out and started beating them up. Soon Timung and his friends following behind reached the spot and joined in the barbaric act. For more than one hour they carried out their attack on Nilotpal and Abhijit.

When police from Dokomoka police station arrived at the spot about two hours later, they found the youths in a serious condition. The police immediately shifted them to an ambulance but both died on way.
Two years back, Timung was involved in a similar lynching of a 23-year-old motorcycle mechanic, Mithu Das, at Dengaon in the same district. Das was beaten to death by a mob of over 50 in front of three policemen.
The mob accused Das of raping a tribal girl. The criminals even put salt on Das's wounds. He later succumbed to injuries in the hospital.
