Assam: Guwahati youth lynching case, 5 more held

GUWAHATI, June 12, 2018 (TNN): On Monday, Assam police set up an SIT to probe into the June 8 lynching of two Guwahati youths in Karbi Anglong, even as five more people believed to be directly involved in the crime were arrested.
Nilotpal Das (29) and his friend Abhijeet Nath (30) had gone to visit the Kangt hilangso waterfall to catch ornam ental fish. Some villagers, who suspected them to be child-lifters, stopped their vehicle , pulled them out of the car and lynched them. The killings triggered widespread protests across the state.
"The SIT will be headed by Indranil Barua, additional SP (HQ). He will be assisted by two other officials," said SP (Karbi Anglong) V Siva Prasad Ganjala.
