Assam: Fake FB account of state DGP surfaces

GUWAHATI, June 29, 2018 (TNN): With social media crimes taking toll, a fake Facebook account in the name of Assam director general of police (DGP) Kuladhar Saikia emerged on Thursday.

This is the second time in June that a top cop in the state has been targeted by miscreants creating fake Facebook accounts. Earlier, an account with the name of Guwahati commissioner of police Hiren Nath had surfaced. A person was arrested from Nagaon in connection with the case.

The DGP, who already has a personal Facebook account, confirmed that he has only one account and expressed ignorance about the other account. Saikia told TOI, "I was informed that there is a Facebook account with the name Kuladhar Saikia but I have only one Facebook account, under the name of Kula Saikia."

City police are on the lookout for the creator of the fake account. Police sources added that the account was probably created recently, since it doesn't have any 'friends'. The state police recently constituted a special cyber patrolling wing to monitor misuse of social media.
