Assam: District administration to take strict laws against arms licences
GUWAHATI, August 4, 2018: Deputy commissioner of Dibrugarh, Laya Madduri said that the district administration will follow strict laws while considering applications for arms licences.
Madduri said, "If someone has a licensed arm but behaves irresponsibly, the district administration will take immediate action against him". Adding to it, she said, "We will review all those who possess arms licences and ask them to surrender the weapons if they do not really need those. We will only issue firearms licences to those we are convinced are under a threat".
Police seized a licensed pistol on Wednesday evening, of a BJP ward commissioner of Dibrugarh, Sudama Pandey, after he tried to meet chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal at Dibrugarh circuit house carrying a firearm.
Sources said Pandey tried to forcibly enter the VIP room where Sonowal was meeting officials. The NSG commandos and other security staff barred him from doing so and found a loaded .32 pistol with six live bullets while frisking Pandey.
However, Pandey was allowed to leave after questioning.
