Assam boy clutches twin titles in U-12 AITA Super Series 2018

IMPHAL, May 26, 2018: Assam's Manan Nath won double crowns in the U-12 AITA Super Series 2018 for boys and girls held at Imphal District Tennis Association complex at Lamphelpat on Friday.
He claimed the boys' singles title beating Harsh Fogaat of Delhi 7-6(6-2), 7-5(6-0) in the final. In the doubles final, Manan along with his partner Harsh Fogaat defeated Mahalingam Kandhavel of Tamil Nadu and Anirudh Nallaparaju of Telangana 6-1, 6-0.
In a gruelling one-and-a-half-hour final battle, Manan faced a tough challenge from Harsh extending the game to tiebreakers but Manan's resilience paid off at the end.
Manan conquered the game with 7-6(6-2), 7-5(6-0) sets for the trophy. En route to the final, Manan beat Ashwajit Senjam of Manipur 6-4, 6-4, while Harsh beat Anirudh Nallaparaju 6-1, 6-1.
In the girls' singles final, Ikaraju Kanumuri of Telengana had a relatively easy game against Sohini Sanj Mohanty of Odisha beating the latter 6-4, 6-1 to lay her hands on the champion's title. In the semifinals, Ikaraju beat Laxmi Pran Bogala 6-0, 6-4 while Sohini beat Durganshi 6-1, 6-2.
The girls' double event title was claimed by Ridhi C. Poka and her partner Durganshi beating Laxmi and Ikaraju 6-2, 7-6(6).
Altogether 54 players, including 24 girls, participated in the event.
