Assam: “Bengali-Assamese” instead of “Bengali” recommends Unicode group

GUWAHATI, June 23, 2018: In a meeting held in London experts from the group recommended that the title of the chart containing Assamese and Bengali characters in the Unicode Consortium should be "Bengali-Assamese" instead of "Bengali".

Unicode working group in London agreed that characters in Bengali and Assamese languages are similar.

The working group also recommended to include "Assamese Characters Name" in the name list and to allot code for new and additional characters of Assamese which were earlier missing from the code chart.
