All you need to know about Aadhaar: Where it is mandatory and where it is not
TNT News | Oct 24, 2018:
During the past couple of months, fresh reports on linking of aadhaar with various schemes and mobile numbers and the subsequent Court orders on the same have led to confusion among the general public.
Aadhaar is an ambitious public scheme that uses biometric data to generate unique identification numbers for citizens.
Let us break this up for you; here's few points on where aadhaar is made mandatory, and where it is not:
You need to link Aadhaar with: Your Permanent Account Number, or PAN
You DON'T need to link it with: Your bank account and Your mobile number
You also need Aadhaar to: File your Income Tax returns and for availing facilities of welfare schemes and government subsidies
You don't need Aadhaar for: School admissions, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and University Grants Commission (UGC) exams, or the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).
It may be mentioned that the Supreme Court in its latest judgment had stated that no child can be denied benefits of any schemes if he or she can't produce an Aadhaar number.
