Truck-load of ganja seized from Assam-Tripura border, smugglers not yet arrested!

Guwahati, January 15, 2018: The Assam police on Sunday night seized a truck-load of cannabis, locally known as ganja from the Churaibari check post gate along the Assam-Tripura border.

According to sources, the Assam police managed to seize 520kg of ganja from the Churaibari check post gate area.

Sources stated that the Assam police under the leadership of Officer-in-Charge (OC), Supriyo Bhattacharjee, conducted a sudden raid and seized ganja from a 12-wheeler truck bearing registration number NL-01-K-4344. At least 48 packets of cannabis worth Rs 20 lakh to Rs 30 lakh were seized.

However, the police has not yet arrested anyone in this connection but are investigating the case. It may be mentioned that though several measures have been taken by the concerned authorities to stop the menace of cannabis production, sale and smuggling, incidents of cannabis seizure continue to be reported from different parts of the region.

On the other hand, a conscious section of people has alleged that while cannabis smuggling has gained momentum in the state, the state police has failed to act upon those involved in smuggling.

"The police are not taking any action for controlling the rising smuggling of contraband goods," a local said.
